Hi Sarah, welcome to the world of knitting. It's quite the addiction :)

I recommend that you buy one of each needle before taking the plunge. The needles are cheap enough that you won't feel as if you "wasted" money buy purchasing one, rather than an entire set. That's how I ended up hooked on KPO. I tried their sock needles and discovered that I actually preferred the speed and slickness of the nickle plated needles over the resin, or bamboo. Also, keep in mind that various needles work better with various yarns. For instance, bamboo, resin and birch work nicely with cottons and even silks, while I would not use anything other than nickels for wools, cashmere and bamboo sock yarn.

Great review and I would try the knitpicks, but....

Denise needles have won me over with their EXCELLENT customer service. I had the problem with needles popping off and they are sending me an entire new set of cords for FREE (no shipping/handling or anything). The woman I corresponded with was pleasant and prompt and her only concern was satisfying me. It was nothing short of amazing!

I am a new knitter (one month) and debating what are the best needles for me. I have a lot of hand fatigue with the straight metal needles I'm using- they are inexpensive ones. I don't get the hand fatigue with bamboo but knitting is so much slower. I have not tried interchangeable needles but it sounds like a drop of Lok Tite (medium- blue- non permanent) would prevent the cable from dislocating. You can get it at any hardware store. I am considering the Knit Pick sets but haven't decided on which one...I wonder if the Knit Pick Harmony wood ones (being birch instead of bamboo) are slick enough that I could knit fast (like aluminum metal) but not have the hand fatigue? Or do you think the nickel set would be light enough to resolve the fatigue? Any opinions on the matter? I would appreciate any input.

Yikes. It's funny-- I've had similar experiences. Like seriously... It makes me wonder how small businesses stay open with service like that. I will always pay a little more for exceptional service

Great review! I also went from my beloved Denise to KnitPicks for exactly the same reason. I'm also having the unscrewing problem, though. I guess it's the way I knit, but it's getting very annoying. I think I'm going to call the company to see if they have a solution.

Hi Claudia,

You know I kept debating and pondering and almost took the plunge, just because the new colored set is gorgeous. Apparently, others think so too, because I ordered some new needles just yesterday and noticed that the new wooden interchangeable set is on back order!

However, I picked up the circ needles that I learned to knit on, which are bamboo and I had the hardest time. Casting on even seems slow and sluggish to me. So, I opted to just buy some additional nickel-plated classic circs, for hats and lace projects.

I think one of my friends is going to get the set, so I'll give it a go. I wish I had thought to buy one set of tips, just to see what they look like...aw well...next order.

I'm a little past thie Denise choice, but am trying to choose between the nickle plated options and the newer multilayered/multicolored wood Harmony tips, also by knit-picks. I've tried both but only on alpaca. I like the feel of the wood better, but have to admit that the colors in the wood bother me a little. Am trying some different yarns to see if this is a real problem. A plus is that they both use the same cables, so I may put together a mixed set. It will cost a bit more that way but collecting what you like to use is the best. Anyone out there also comparing the 2 knit picks sets?
