Suspect Arrested On Stalking Charges, Cruelty To Animals
POSTED: 2:46 pm EST February 2, 2007UPDATED: 4:58 pm EST February 2, 2007MT. WASHINGTON, Pa. — A Mount Washington woman called police on Jan. 28 when she came home to find a package gift-wrapped with red bows and pink tissue paper.
She suspected that the package was from her former boyfriend, who had recently been released from incarceration and had been leaving her photos of the two of them with her face destroyed.
Inside the package police found the severed head of a black, 12 to 16-week-old kitten and a note reading, “I love you, Your Ben.”
Police arrested Benjamin Gregory, 30, of Aliquippa at 11:30 a.m. Friday for charges of stalking and cruelty to animals.
He is in Allegheny County Jail and is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for the morning of Feb. 8.
Police said Gregory has an extensive criminal record, including doing time for drugs and later pleading guilty to simple assault.
He was accused of trying to suffocate the alleged victim.
Authorities said when Gregory was released from prison in December on the assault charges, he attempted to re-establish his relationship with his former girlfriend.
